Upcoming Fixtures
On May 2nd the Grubs will host its last home game of the season against the Scioto Valley B-side.  The grubs were
introduced to this new D3 league opponent this past fall season.  The NKYGRFC came up just short and are looking to
even the series in this match.
On May 9th the Grubs will again travel north over the river to face the Wolfhounds B-side.  This will be a good match for
the Northern Kentucky team considering that the B-side Wolfhounds will start playing in the ORU 3rd Division this
coming fall.
The Grubs last game of the spring season on May 16th will match them against another fall league opponent as they
travel to Indianapolis to square up against a solid White River team.
April Results
4/4/09 EKU Colonels @ NKYGRFC
The official season began on and it turned out to be a good start.  The Grubs hosted the Colonels of EKU at 1:00p on
the campus of Dixie Heights High School.   The game started quickly as EKU posted the first points of the match in quick
fashion.  A knock on off the kick-off and a mishandled pass off the following scrum led to a try by EKU in the first couple
minutes of the game.  The Grubs quickly regained focus an took a lead that they'd never give back.  The Grubs scored
33 unanswered points to take a commanding lead.  The Colonels scored another try late in the second half but that
would be all the Grubs defense would allow as they walked off the field that day with an impressive 40-12 victory.  The
Grubs B-side would also walk away victorious as they posted a 14-12 victory over the EKU side.
4/11/09 NKYGRFC @ Queen City
The Grubs traveled north to face a Queen City team that had there way with them in the fall.  This season it was a
different story.  The Grubs started slow.  Majority of the first half the Grubs seemed as if they were constantly on the
defensive end.  Queen City controlled the ball for most of it and finally put a try on the board, but failed the conversion.
The Grubs seemed to wake up and get on track, and scored a try t o tie the score at 5.  Queen City took advantage of
some plays and took the lead.  The second half started much differently as the Grubs seemed to want it more.   After a
sin bin penalty for each side the Grubs were able to put some more points on the board.  Another sin bin penalty for the
Frogs gave the Grubs an advantage and it seemed they were going to take command for good as they scored another
try to take the lead at 22-15.  Some quick play late in the game for the Frogs however got them right back in to tie the
score up.  With just minutes to play the experienced Queen City side scored again to take the lead 27-22 with the Grubs
unable to answer.  It was a well played match on a beautiful day for rugby.  Congrats go out to the man of the match for
the Grubs Ammeon "Yogi" Beckham.  In a thrown together B-side match up the Grubs were utilized to fill both lineups.
Although the score shows QCRFC 12 NKYGRFC 10 it's hard to say the Grubs lost.  The match was well played and
hard fought by both sides.   Congrats goes out to Shaun "Bourbon" Burton for receiving man of the match honors.
4/18/09 Off Week
The Grubs were able to have a nice afternoon at the park.  The weather was just right on this Saturday.  They enjoyed
the company of friends and family while getting to know one another.  There was good food supplied by everyone and
cornhole going on all day.  This was the first annual Grubs Family Picnic,  hopefully this is will be a tradition for years to
come.
4/25/09 NKYGRFC @ Louisville
The Grubs traveled to Louisville, Ky to play their men's side for the first time. The rugby God was on the side of
Louisville on this day as they simply trounced the Grubs. I stopped keeping score after Louisville scored their tenth try.
This Rugby day was disappointing from beginning to end. The Grubs never got going and were unable to keep up with
the skill and speed of Louisville. We did however continue to travel well and several Grubs hustled throughout the game
as they tried to make solid plays.
The team experienced a real wake up in their process of pulling the team from a social side to a competitive side. We
simply need more athletes, a lot more work and the same personnel at both practices and the games to build some
continuity and experience.
We will go back to work this week and see if we can turn the tide in our last 3 games.
Jeff Beck and Joey Hood (fed from an awesome run from Yogi) scored tries for the Grubs.
